The Portrait
Through portraiture I seek to bring about an encounter with the viewer of the painting and the portrayed person. At that moment the painting as such ceases to exist and the person comes alive and is present. The portrait gives witness to the dignity and uniqueness of each of us. It is because of these qualities, that similarity of features is so important. By copying mans´ image I seek to show him as a creature endowed with a rational mind and the ability and the desire to love and to be loved. Thus the portrait becomes the ultimate nature study and certainly one of the most important themes in painting and sculpture.
